Wattle Fence Project

This term we started a new project called ‘Wattle Fencing’ – which is using natural resources found in the woodland to build a very strong fence, and create our own little camp area, with shelter from the wind. The idea is to introduce the children to; using tools (such as loppers, bill hooks and bow saws), using mathematical language when measuring logs etc.,and to take interest in working on a big project.

This project started with lots of tool talks about how to safely handle and use tools, and now we have two solid fence panels erected with a specially created seating area for the children. Our next plan is to create an area to become a more permanent fire pit. This is to get the children more used to the routine of fire safety rules, and the correct way of lighting and distinguishing fires. Keep posted for further updates!
