Bumper crop of fruit and vegetables

Research shows that when children experience the growing of food in the outdoors they are much more likely to taste and enjoy it. Growing our own fruit and vegetables also gives us the opportunity to teach children where food comes from (not the supermarket shelves!) and enables children to have a greater connection to nature. We have had a very successful summer growing potatoes, carrots, courgettes, runner beans, apples and raspberries in our allotments, which the nursery cooks have served the children for their lunch, and the children have used to bake some yummy delights such as apple cake and jammy dodgers!
